Do You Qualify for the BUS Grant?

Most homeowners in England and Wales meet the criteria. Check these four requirements to confirm your eligibility.

Own Your Home

You must be a homeowner or a private landlord. The BUS grant is not available to social housing tenants - you need to own or privately let the property.

Property in England or Wales

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme covers properties in England and Wales only. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own separate government schemes.

Existing Boiler Being Replaced

Your current heating system - whether gas, oil, or electric - must be replaced. The BUS grant is not available for new-build properties without an existing system.

MCS-Certified Installer Required

The installation must be carried out by an MCS-certified contractor. We connect you with a certified local installer at no cost - we handle everything.

Biomass Boiler

£5,000
Rural properties only

Available for rural properties not connected to the gas grid. Burns sustainably sourced wood pellets or chips, and must meet local air quality requirements.

0% finance available for any remaining cost after your grant, subject to status. Finance provided by Ideal4Finance (FCA No. 703401).

Benefits of Heat Pumps

Heat pumps are not just better for the environment - they can significantly reduce your bills, increase your home's value, and last far longer than a traditional boiler.

Up to 60% Lower Energy Bills

Heat pumps are 3-4x more efficient than gas boilers, converting one unit of electricity into 3-4 units of heat.

Reduce Carbon Footprint by Up to 70%

Replacing a gas boiler with an air source heat pump can cut your home's carbon emissions by up to 70%.

Lasts 20+ Years

Heat pumps outlast traditional boilers (10-15 years) by a significant margin, with fewer moving parts and lower maintenance requirements.

Increases Property Value

Homes with heat pumps and higher EPC ratings command a premium on the market and are increasingly preferred by buyers and tenants.

Works in Most UK Homes

Modern heat pumps work effectively in the vast majority of UK properties, including older and semi-detached homes, provided insulation is adequate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, answered honestly.

Yes - the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant is funded by the UK Government through OFGEM and paid directly to your MCS-certified installer. You never see or handle the money yourself; it simply reduces the cost of your installation. There is no loan, no repayment, and no means test - your income does not affect eligibility.
There is no catch. The BUS grant is a Government-funded initiative to help the UK move away from fossil fuel boilers. The main conditions are: you must own your property (or be a private landlord), the property must be in England or Wales, and the installer must be MCS certified - which we arrange for you at no cost. The only additional cost could be if your home needs insulation improvements before installation, which we will flag clearly during the free survey.
Most heat pump installations take 1-3 days. After you submit your enquiry, we aim to book a free home survey within 48 hours. The full process from initial enquiry to a working heat pump typically takes 4-8 weeks, depending on your local installer's schedule and any preparation work required.
Modern air source heat pumps work effectively in the vast majority of UK properties - including older homes - provided there is reasonable insulation. Our free home survey will assess your property and confirm suitability with absolutely no obligation. If your home is not quite ready, we will advise on the steps to make it suitable, often at little or no additional cost.
Your existing boiler will be safely decommissioned and removed as part of the installation. Heat pumps work with your existing radiators in most cases, though larger radiators or underfloor heating can improve efficiency. Your hot water cylinder may need to be replaced or upgraded - your installer will confirm everything during the free survey, so there are no surprises.
